LASER CUTTING
DES 100
Brief: Design and Produce a keyring with a logo on it/ a everyday object that you will use
STEP ONE
INSPIRATION BOARD
Below is an inspiration board that I did for this project. I searched up some laser-cutting examples for Pinterest as references; this will give me a rough idea of what I want to make. (References will be attached at the end of this page)

STEP TWO
IDEATION
To start this CCC project off, I did a brief sketch of what I will usually put in my bag. And that I found something that I typically put in my bag. And I found something I will use daily, my key chain. So I decided to produce a keychain with MDF. And I started by drawing a quick sketch of the logo and determining how I wanted it to be cut.

WORKING PROCESS
After I decided to do the cat logo, I drew a template first on Procreate. And I used Adobe Illustrator to trace the template, then I adjust the thickness of the line to 0.001mm and changed the color to red and blue that enable the laser cuter to cut.

FINAL PRODUCT

FINAL DESIGN REFLECTION
This is the final design that I decided to go with. Overall I am happy with the logo that I have for now. Since I am currently offshore, I can't go to the fab-lab and do the laser-cutting by myself, so I need to wait a while for the final product to come out. Improvement-wise, I would love to try some complex patterns next time.
REFLECTION
Something I learned from this design experience is the fun of self-learning. I've used photoshop before for my photography assignments, but illustrator is something new to me. I did struggle with how to use the software during this assignment. But I managed to find some tutorials and finally got some basic knowledge of the app. I realized that when you are learning something on your own, you will tend to memorize things better than you were being lectured all the way through.

Another thing that I learned is that try everything you can when you are starting to create something. At first, I couldn't decide what to do. I was not sure of what exactly I wanted to make. And then I thought, "Why don't I try both and see which one I liked better?". So I did both approaches and found out what I really want to do for this assignment.
How will this experience influence my life tomorrow?
I think that something important that I learned from this experience is to try everything you can. Never stop trying new things, because that's something that will inspire you at the end of the day.
