REVERSE ENGINEERING

DES 100

Brief: Choose an everyday object and reverse engineer, it to produce a 3D model, render, and specification drawing.

I chose to reverse engineer my XBOX game controller for this project because it is something that immediately came to my mind when I saw the brief. I love playing video games. There is nothing more relaxing other than immersing yourself in a world of fantasy after a long week. Plus, making a game controller is challenging, even though it might seem easy to make since it only has one big part. But it has different buttons, so it still takes a  bit of work to refine these little details.

ROUGH SKETCH

I started by doing a rough sketch, and the ratio is approximately 1:3 here. I later measured the dimension of different parts using the Measure function on my phone because I do not have a ruler by my hand right now.

Once I got the sketch done, I started to work on the 3D model. Here is my working process; I started it with a cuboid and cut it into a shape that roughly resembles the controller. And then, I smoothed the edges and began to add details and colors on to it.

TECHNICAL DRAWING

This is my final technical drawing because it only has one big part so I created this one picture that contains the measurements of the controller. This picture includes a front view, a top view, a bottom view, and two side views.

FINAL RENDERINGS

This is my final product, and overall, I am satisfied with what I got here. This project enhanced my skills in  3D modeling, and I am surprised by what I can create with only some basic knowledge of this 3D modeling software. At first, I thought there was no way I could handle this. And at some point, I have to start it all over again because of some minor issues. But it all works out, and I genuinely enjoyed the creating process; even though it was exhausting, it was worth it.
