SCENARIO DEVELOPMENT
Personal Position

MY IDENTITY AND BACKGROUND
Honestly, I don't know how to categorize myself into one thing because I feel like I'm a bit of everything. I was born and raised in Chongqing, China, for the first 15 years of my life. But I didn't spend all that 15 years in my hometown, because my parents love to travel. They took me to a lot of places around the world. And that experience made me decide to go to the other side of the earth for high school; I remember dragging my two heavy suitcases and standing in Dulles Airport in Washington D.C. alone, waiting for my dorm parent to pick me up. The four years of high school have been life-changing for me. It allowed me to know and collaborate with people from different backgrounds, even though most of that time was exciting and joyful. Coming from a different cultural background and immersing yourself in another culture was a unique experience. But gradually, I started feeling lonely as I didn't belong to any side. I don't feel I blend in with my other Asian American friends, but at the same time, I don't feel like I'm "Chinese enough" like my friends back home. Gladly, this feeling of confusion has come to an end now. I know that everyone is unique in their way, and it is ok to not just categorize myself into one. Growing up and experiencing two types of cultures opened up more visions for me, and it will always positively influence me to become a better designer and person.
KAWA VALUES AND UN SDGs
Below are some of the kawa design values and UN SDGs that I want to incorporate into my future designs.

Mahi Tahi
Personally, I always like to share my design progress and thoughts with others. And I think hearing other people's thoughts also inspires me to come up with more ideas.
He Huri Hanga
Diversity is another thing that I value in my design profile. Not just culturally diverse but also the diversity in other identities are also worth celebrating.
Orangatanga
To me, physical and spiritual well-being is equally important, and I feel like this kawa needs to be addressed in society nowadays. As our society is being reformed by rapidly developing technologies, there are many potential health issues that come along with these changes. And these problems are yet to tackle.

UN SDG 9
Innovation is the key to creating a sustainable future no matter what industry an individual is in. As a Design and Property conjoint student, I would like to connect this SDG to both of my programs.
UN SDG 10
Even though our society is heading towards a more equal future. Still, there are individuals who are treated unequally because of their identities. I hope to change the biased social perception through design.
UN SDG 11
I think this SDG encapsulates both of my study programs. Creating a sustainable living environment for the future is something that motivates me to take these two programs for my bachelor's degree.
UN SDG 12
With more and more environmental-related crises like global warming, and air and water pollution, the ocean is flooded with plastics. It is really the time for us to think about a more sustainable way of consumption and production. And the solution to this situation can be found through design.
Future Diary
Write a diary of your future self in the year 2037.
" I woke up in my apartment at 9 am as my AI assistant called me out of bed, just like any other workday. And as I walked into the living room, the curtains sensed me walking by and opened as I walked through them. The coffee machines start to make me hot lattes as I like. Then I began to make my breakfast, I’m currently on a diet, so I took out the pre-made breakfast and heated it up. This is part of the diet meal that I ordered on the app. They deliver pre-made meals twice a week. These are customized meals with enough nutrition for me. I drive my electric car to my office since fossil fuels are no longer put into use. I work as a UX designer for a tech company. My team and I had a meeting with the client and discussed on few details of the project that I’m currently working on. After I got off from work, I went to the meditation room in the common area of the apartment, it provides an immersive experience of relaxation, this releases the stress from a day of work. Then I went home and played some video games with my VR goggles on. The only equipment that players need to wear is just the goggles, the game console will automatically track your body movement. At 10 pm, I took a shower and did a quick skin test on my mirror and it showed my skin get a bit dry, it’s probably because I stay up too late for the past few weeks. So, I decided to go to bed earlier today, I set the smart home system to sleeping mode, and the lights are dimmed as I fall asleep. And this is my regular working schedule in the year 2037. "
Three Domains
I made a miro board that brainstormed some of the ideas that I mentioned in the future diary. And I expand these ideas with projects. Below is my mindmaps and a link to my Miro Board. The brainstorming process is divided into three separate domains: technology, design, and culture.
